After our stay in Halls Creek we packed up early and took a drive out to Old Halls Creek and Caroline Pool.
Halls Creek was the site of the first gold discovery in WA in 1885. The town grew with people from all over during the goldrush. In 1955 the town was relocated 15 km to the northwest to where Halls Creek lies today.
‘Old Halls Creek’ is still there and you can see the odd ruins and old cars, the cemetery etc of a town that once existed as a bustling community.
Caroline Pool is a natural waterhole and it’s absolutely beautiful. If it looks this good in the dry season, it must be remarkable in the wet season.
After a morning looking around we took the short drive to our next stop at the Bungle Bungle Caravan Park just outside Purnululu National Park. We are so glad we chose to stay here rather than in the park as we found out during our drive later ….. the poor trailer would not have been happy! The Purnululu National Park is a World Heritage Site and houses the Bungle Bungle ranges.
whilst cooking dinner last night this walked right past us!
Weather update …. currently 34 degrees at 3.30 in the afternoon and this morning we were in shorts and tshirts at 6am!
